This language course is designed for students with a great appreciation for the melodious Italian language, but no previous knowledge of it. Using a variety of teaching methodologies – situational, student-focused, inductive – it aims to provide students with basic familiarity with elements of Italian conversation. By the end of the semester, students will be able successfully to interact with native Italian speakers in real-life contexts encountered while traveling or living abroad: introducing oneself and others; describing people, places, and things in the present and recent past; asking for and giving directions; shopping at the supermarket; making a reservation or booking; traveling by various means of transportation; telling a story in the recent past; making plans for the future.
